Matermorphosis

The ‘care tactics, not scare tactics’ Antenatal Course for modern parents

Most parents agree that today's birth and postpartum prep in the UK isn't good enough. But instead of accepting this fate for future parents we believe that there is a better way.

Matermorphosis is a new type of antenatal course inspired by Eastern, Ancient and European traditions, parent feedback and the wisdom of our experienced practitioners to put nurture at the centre of parent education.

The Matermorphosis Course:

How We’ll Prepare and Pamper You

  • Week One

Birth’s Own Story: Hypnobirthing and Pregnancy Yoga (Worthing) or Pregnancy Pilates (Brighton)

Vicki Thorpe will will talk us through the powerful and scientific benefits of hypnobirthing and why it’s a great friend to have by your side. Our job is to give you the tools to have the best birth possible for you: honouring the dual nature of preparation and acceptance while focusing on the supportive role of hypnobirthing and movement. We’ll finish up with pregnancy yoga (Worthing) or Pilates (Brighton).

  • Week Two

Empower, Embrace & Untangle: Midwife Insights + Q&A

Rachel Ollier, NHS and private midwife is a goddess amongst mortals. She is a bona fide beacon of calm, strength and knowledge and is the woman every parent needs in their corner. Rachel will offer a midwife’s perspective on navigating the NHS birth system and empowering yourself with facts. She’ll help us learn how to make challenging decisions, have a holistic approach to pregnancy and postpartum and cover some new mum and newborn baby ‘normals’ and ‘not so normals’.

  • Week Three

Parenting Partnership Workshop: Stay Connected Through the Chaos

Taking time to connect as a couple before a new baby arrives should be prescribed on the NHS. ‘Parents That Work’ Founder, Rachel Childs will be helping expectant parents have relationship strengthening conversations to prepare parents (as best one can) for the sleepless nights and the joyful chaos of early parenthood. Rachel will also be running mother and father circles in Week Five.

  • Week Four

Bump & Batch: Parents Cooking Together for the Fourth Trimester

Let’s cook together (from the comfort of our own kitchens) for a live streamed batch cooking session with mother and chef, Sophie from Loam. Finding time for nutritious cooking is often the last thing on your mind once a baby arrives so now’s a chance to do some meal prep to whack in the freezer for later keeping self-care firmly on your parent agenda.

  • Week Five

Sole Serenity: Restorative Reflexology for Balance*

Led by the magical Maisie Ross-Talbot, reflexology is a wonderful way to restore balance of mind and body in pregnancy. The 30 minute reflexology session will include a pre/post chat so Maisie can target the stress-busting, pain-reducing, hormone-balancing, sleep-boosting benefits of reflexology to suit you.*Worthing only.

  • Week Six

Postpartum Peace Planning Brunch with Shoulder Massages

A chance for all parents to get together for the last time with a talk from Honey House Founder and Doula, Daisy Hill on how to set yourself up for a supported and peaceful postpartum period. We’ll explore the concept of postnatal depletion and talk about building your support system. There will be shoulder massages on offer for all.

A Safe Haven

Matermorphosis is a safe haven for expectant parents amongst a sea of antenatal courses that aren’t really there for you. Our feedback found other courses to be patronising, overwhelming (too much information that parents simply do not need and not enough heart), scaremongering, biased - or all the above.

The Matermorphosis course shines due credit on the monumental shift both mother as carrier and creator is experiencing  - and father / second parent is feeling too. The course aims to provide parents with a nurturing experience that adequately prepares you practically - but crucially prepares and pampers you emotionally and mentally for this incredibly beautiful adventure. Your empowered parent journey begins now. Our course aims to:

  • Provide unbiased information on all types of birth and breast / bottle feeding

  • Empower with physiological labour wisdom to build your vaginal birth toolkit and celebrate informed elective c-sections.

  • Tackle the options vs no option (or avoidables / unavoidables) topic

  • Remove postpartum hyper-vigilance by providing core newborn and postpartum health flags

  • Reduce shame and increase empowerment

  • Explore the science around postnatal depletion and learn how to heal

  • Openly discuss relationship and work changes

  • Realistic nutrition chats and group batch cooking prep

  • Plan your postpartum support village to avoid feeling alone or overwhelmed

  • Meet your people and build your new parent community
