Postnatal Doula Services with Daisy Hill

@Navigating.Newbornland

Hi I’m Daisy, a mum of two toddlers (aged 2 and 4) living by the beach in lovely Worthing, West Sussex.

I’d dreamt of being a mother since I was 4 but a rocky TTC journey, very little pregnancy care, coercion and confusion for my first birth and then BOOM the postpartum period hit and I was like WTF IS HAPPENING HERE. I felt totally on my own navigating newbornland and despite a hands-on partner, I was craving the wisdom and nurturing of other mothers to hear me, hold me and guide me.

What is a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to new parents in the weeks after birth. We’re here to mother the mother and support partners too.

I’m passionate about restoring the lost art of proper postnatal support to enable parents to truly soak up as much newborn bliss as possible. I’m there so you can be there.

Just as we wouldn't expect someone to master complex skills alone, it makes sense that new parents need postnatal support too. This beautiful and vulnerable time was never traditionally left for parents to try and wing on their own (on very little sleep). Proper postnatal care used to be normal and it should be again.

I create a nurturing space where new parents can learn, grow, and thrive with proper support (not advice!) to help you feel confident, calm, comforted and joyful.

You can work with me however you’d like but I suggest my 8-week programme below is a good place to start.

The 8 week ‘Navigating Newbornland’ Postnatal Doula Package, by Daisy Hill

I have created the Navigating Newbornland 8-week package to bring together the very best of my Younique Postnatal Doula Training, my own experience as a mother of two and yoga teacher and my role as a Parent Wellbeing Advocate at Honey House and Oya.

We will craft your doula experience exactly to suit your needs. I can help with newborn care, breastfeeding support, meal prep, and emotional wellbeing and we will make any changes we need to along the way. We can chat, we can cry - and of course I can hold the baby while you go and have a sleep. The Navigating Newbornland package is just a nice, cosy guide, ( a bit like me!)

The most experienced person in the room is always the parent. My job is to build you up and help you unlock your uniquely wonderful parent mojo.

The 8-week package is £499 (this covers 8 x 2 hour sessions at your home) and can be paid in instalments.

  • This is a pre-baby preparation session focusing on building your support network and some light touch birth wisdom. We'll establish your ‘meal tree’ and postnatal support village, review health indicators for both mother and baby, and discuss a few key tips and tricks for a brilliant birth. I'll also provide insights into physiological postpartum changes like the first poo and introduce some helpful parenting hacks like the 5 S's of soothing. You’ll be feeling confident, not clueless that first night at home with baby.

  • We’ll have a soft and gentle talk around how you’re feeling emotionally and physically and chat through the difference between normal "baby blues" and conditions like postpartum depression, anxiety, and birth trauma. We can discuss warning signs, coping strategies, and when to seek help. It’s my job to make sure you feel heard and looked after. Big changes are happening, wobbles are normal. Care is the cure.

  • We’ll talk infant feeding and getting some sleep. We can see where you’re at and talk through any feeding challenges (from baby weight gain to your exhaustion) and find solutions (or applaud your sheer fabulousness). The focus can shift solely to baby in postpartum and I’m here to remind you that your needs matter too. I’ll bring some pointers on reflux management and colic just in case, and practical sleep strategies for both baby and parents.

  • We’ll focus on maternal nutrition and natural wellness. I’ll bring the recipe books and we can plan or prep some nourishing postpartum meals to support your recovery and milk production if you’re breastfeeding. We’ll chat natural remedies too like the wonderful magic of homeopathy, which can support bruising, mastitis, sore nipples and more.

  • Hopefully you’ll be off to a flying start by now. Baby is nearly a month! This week we’ll delve a little into the world of postnatal depletion using Dr. Oscar Serrallach's framework to see how your body can best be supported after giving birth.

We'll evaluate your energy levels, mood, and any symptoms to identify potential nutritional gaps (there’s a lil questionnaire). Common gaps are things like iron and magnesium and together we can talk through whether you think you might benefit from some supplements to restore your innate awesomeness.

  • This week we’ll do some cathartic pregnancy, new baby and Matrescence processing through guided journaling. Maternal Journal is a global movement created by a midwife and a doula - and a brilliant and creative way to process your experience of parenthood (whether it’s your first or fifth baby). I also run a 6-week Maternal Journal course in Worthing and Hove for those wanting to do more documenting and meet other mums too.

  • This week I’ll put my yoga teacher hat on and we’ll do some gentle postpartum movement, if you feel up to it. We’ll learn some safe postnatal yoga sequences, breathing techniques, and exercises that will respect and nurture your recovering body. We can also chat through anything else that’s cropping up this week and any questions you might want to ask at your 6-week NHS check-up.

  • Hopefully by week 7/8 of baby’s life you’ll be feeling a bit more ‘normal’ - hurrah. Now’s the time to grab your wings and fly - and by fly I mean hit up coffee shops on your own with calm and confidence. Our final session in the Navigating Newbornland package will actively involve both parents in a healing birth debrief session. Birth and caring for a newborn baby is an incredibly raw time for both parents and it’s absolutely normal to have mixed emotions. We’ll be guided by The Birth Debrief book by Illiyin Morrison and I can signpost any further debrief support if I feel this could be helpful. We’ll chat through anything else you want support with from grandparents to milestones and book recommendations - and we can talk through if you might want me to stay on longer too. Finally, I’ll give you your ‘navigated newbornland’ photo journal as a momento of your precious and once in a lifetime newborn journey.

I’d love to be your postnatal doula.
